We are Iridium Magazine, just a bunch of people of intersecting marginalizations fumbling around in the dark hoping to find something. We will publish intersectional Queer/Questioning, Undecided, Intersex, Lesbian, Transgender, Bisexual, Asexual/Aromantic, Gay/Genderqueer (QUILTBAG+) genre fiction. If that sounds incredibly specific, it is. If that sounds incredibly general, it is.
What even is intersectionality? Well, here’s the start of an answer: intersectionality means the intersections of marginalized identities. So, what counts? At a minimum: race, ethnicity, religion, class, sexual orientation, gender identity, but also survivor status, mental illness and fatness. There could be other things we haven’t thought of. We want these things stated on the page, with little ambiguity when it comes to characters. But it’s harder when it comes to the creators. As for their identity, that’s up to them to disclose. We will never reveal their information to the public if they don’t want that. It will factor into our decisions, as we intend to uplift intersectional fiction, but our authors have full control over anything that gets shared publicly.
Our only goal is to curate fiction that entertains and make it accessible. It’s not to make a big overarching statement or anything. We’re just here to read good fiction. No Comments
